Pediatrics

Just as adults may need an x-ray or ultrasound, so can our children.

  • Taking your child to get a scan can be an extremely stressful experience for both parent and child. CGA welcomes children to our warm environment. Extra preparation before the appointment and the art of distraction means our technologists are able to alleviate some of the stress by making the scan as quick and efficient as possible.

  • 30 - 60 minutes

For patients under 5, we recommend allowing extra time. Please note, in rare cases, extremely specialized exams may be referred to Alberta Children’s Hospital.

  • Abdomen or Pyloris (children under 2 years)

Do your best to have your child have nothing to eat or drink for 3 hours prior to the exam. Bring a bottle (as needed) for the baby for immediately following the exam.

    Pelvis

Drink 500 ml (2 cups) of water, 90 minutes prior to the appointment and finish it one hour before the appointment. Please try to avoid having your child empty their bladder. If they do empty early, please have them drink another cup of water.

Children who are not toilet trained are not required to fill their bladder.

We work with parents and children to ensure each child’s experience is as peaceful as possible.
